Throwback Thursday Series – Colonial Credentials

Colonial Credentials
This brick colonial home was transformed and won a Preservation Award from the Village of Wilmette. Great care was taken at our Chestnut Residence when we overtook an existing attached garage to become part of a new family room with an expanded breakfast area and new mudroom. A second floor was added above the existing sunroom to provide a master bath, and a new detached garage was built. The exterior materials were carefully selected to match the brick size, color variations and, most importantly, the Flemish brick pattern. The family room addition incorporates the gable roof forms of the original house along with the dentil detailing and round louvers. Even the detached garage picks up on these same elements and the coach house feeling is enhanced by providing wood paneled carriage doors with divided light windows.
