Patrick Murphy

Architectural Intern

Mr. Murphy is a young designer with an interdisciplinary pedagogy. Academically, his background in mathematics and art history has led to a unique design approach. Through his international studio research in Taiwan, Venice, and Iceland, he has developed an understanding of the relationship between vernacular design and the surrounding environment. It is these experiences that help position his sustainable methodology and his focus on passive strategies for environmental stewardship. He recently completed his architectural master’s degree thesis entitled “Geometric Inversions on Architectural Territories” at the University of Michigan. In addition to his architectural studies, Patrick has undertaken a commitment to improving the built environment by reexamining the traditional roles within the industry through his secondary degree in construction management and his experience in the field as a construction supervisor.

Patrick has participated in numerous competitions and continues to explore the boundaries of design through algorithmic processes of optimization and emergent theory. His interest in tectonic relationships continues to motivate his research in computer modeling and software manipulation.

In addition to his passion for architecture, Patrick has spent five years working in restaurant kitchens and continues to expand his culinary horizons by hosting a weekly “Top Chef” cook off at his residence in Lakeview.
