Edible Edifice

COOK ARCHITECTURAL Design Studio won 1st Place with their tasty design entry in the Edible Ediface competition. The gingerbread creation, modeled after the Chicago landmark Harold Washington Library, features sweet details like piped greenery in the window boxes, patina-frosted cookies shaped into gargoyles and mouthwatering candies – supplied by Chicago’s Farley’s and Sathers Candy Company. Proceeds from the event benefit the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation.

“Start at the Top” Merchandise Mart Event

COOK ARCHITECTURAL Design Studio applied their design skills to the art of pumpkin carving for this year’s ‘Start at the Top’ Merchandise Mart event. This event featured elaborate pumpkin designs created by designers from around the city. The pumpkins were displayed in the 18th Floor showrooms during the event and later donated to several area charities including Misericordia, Chicago Park District, and Chicago West Community Music Center. Charles S. Cook, principal at COOK ARCHITECTURAL Design Studio, was honored to be a part of this year’s Chicago VIP Luxury Summit at LuxeHome. We were particularly humbled by Christopher G. Kennedy’s gracious accoladesfor our firm’s design work during his inspirational opening remarks. Mr. Kennedy, president of Merchandise Mart Properties, acknowledged the critically important role innovative design plays in defining the character and civic culture in Chicago, specifically citing projects “designed or renovated by a great Chicago architect like…Chuck Cook”. He went on to emphasize that, “Each of you was carefully selected to be included in today’s summit. Each of you is considered the best in your field. I feel lucky to be in the same room with all of you here this morning”.
